Cincinnati is home to a large number of major corporations, from Proctor & Gamble, The Kroger Company and Macy's Inc. to Fifth Third Bank, Great American Insurance Company and The E.W. Scripps company, to name a few. The Cincinnati region fares well, when compared to other cities: It holds the headquarters of 10 Fortune 500 companies and 18 Fortune 1000 companies. This ranks the city as sixth for number of Fortune 500 companies (4.98 companies per million citizens) and fourth under Fortune 1000 companies (8.96 companies per million citizens). Despite these numbers, none of the Fortune 500 or 1000 companies are the largest employer in the city: That position is taken by the University of Cincinnati, with 15,400 employees. The Kroger Company and Proctor And Gamble, tied in second place on the list, have 13,000 employees each: Not enough to bump the University.
In February 2005, the unemployment rate was 6.2%. The median income per household was estimated at $29,554 the same year.
The city is known to have cold and snowy winters making it an ideal location
for girl hockey tournaments. Players
from across the country join in Cincinnati to test their skills against the
competition. Often times these families are traveling with the whole group and
hiring outside help to keep everything organized is not uncommon. Parents traveling from Calgary or other parts of Canada often hire a caregiver or nanny from a
nanny Calgary agency to have help looking after some of the other children while the hockey players are at the tournaments.
